Lancaster, PA – April 2, 2013 – Mayor Rick Gray signed a proclamation today declaring this week as Barbershop Harmony Week.

On April 11, 1938 – 75 years ago next Thursday – The Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, Inc. (SPEBSQSA)—known now as The Barbershop Harmony Society—was officially organized in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

What began as a small group has steadily blossomed into the world’s largest all-male singing organization, an international organization of men from all stations of life.

This special proclamation is only the beginning of The Lancaster Red Rose Chorus’ celebration of The Barbershop Harmony Society’s Diamond Anniversary. On Sunday, May 19th, the chorus will present Celebrate Harmony, a show we hope will entertain and educate the public with our rich heritage and the music we share.
